The Alexander Technique is above all a thinking process that applies directly to the nervous system. Whether you take a step or play an instrument, take a sip out of a cup of tea or drive a car - a wonderfully complex communication is happening inside of your system that enables you to take the desired activity into action.
There are thousands of different ways of taking your body into any activity and if you experience stress, (chronic) pain as you do what you are doing it is likely that your way of acting can be improved. Alexander Technique is a tool that helps you to find back to a more easeful, graceful and light way of living that is your inheritance and birthright.
If you feel like reconnecting to your body and experiencing yourself in a freshly manner the Alexander Technique is something for you.
The Alexander Technique is for everybody with a curiosity to engage into an active exploration of herself or himself.
habitual
As we grow up all of us tend to live big parts of our lives habitually in many ways. We develop habits of thinking, habits of moving etc. This is not a bad thing! Habits help us to make life easier. It is great though to have the freedom to choose whether you actually want to run on autopilot or if you want to meet this moment more consciously.
In order to have that choice you need to get to know yourself as a whole, understand that you are a habitual animal and last but not least you need to have a tool to directly address those habits in order to loosen their grip. This is what the Alexander Technique has to offer.
therapy vs education
The Alexander Technique is not a therapy. It is an active exploration - an un-learning process.
Frederick Matthias Alexander pointed towards a possibility of re-discovering a most natural state that comes with being alive as a human being.
Your body is very alive, always changing and adapting and as you start paying attention to that fact and actively start shaping this process life becomes fuller, richer, brighter and more fun.
There's never a time that you are NOT educating your nervous system. The Alexander Technique shows you that you can choose what you are feeding it and how.
